At home with Chloé Kian

We stumbled across Chloé's page, and instantly fell in love with her space and personal style; we thought our community would too. Here we learn more about Chloé, her approach to styling a space and daily rituals and routines.

Where are you from and where are you residing currently?

I’m from Switzerland and currently living by Lac Léman, close to the water and the alps.

Do you have a morning / evening routine?

At the moment I wake up around 5-6am, go for a walk or run, get ready, have breakfast and start work or errands. I also like to write in my journal where I set intentions for the day ahead which I review at the end of the day. In the evening, I cook a nice dinner and then wind down watching a movie, tidying prepping for the next day, or read a book before falling asleep by 9-10pm.

What is a normal week day / weekend like for you?

During the week, I wake up, do my routine and do work, run errands, clean up the house, go to meetings and appointments. I regularly have lunch with friends and coworker with other freelancers and business owners. Sometimes I have events in the evening too or early dinner with friends. On the weekend, I let myself wake up slowly and then it’s usually a mix of spending time with loved ones, doing outdoor activities, eating out, going to birthday parties, seeing family, relaxing and prepping for a new week.

Can you tell us about your space, do you have a favourite area(s) within it?

This is an interesting story because I came across the apartment I live in at the moment on renting sites back in 2019 when I was looking for a place in the area but ended up picking a different one. Fast forward 3 years later, I was looking for a new home again and instantly recognized. It’s quite unique as it has beams everywhere giving a bit this “modern tree cabin” vibe. It’s very cozy and airy as it’s in the attic. My favorite places are sitting in the bathtub watching the sky at night or laying in my sofa reading a book or watching a movie on the projector in the evening.

We love how you have curated your space. What is your approach to styling?

Thank you! I’d say it’s both an intuitive and structured process for me. I always start with a vision. I’m a very visual and creative person so I need to see, visualize and test things out to find what works.

How do you like to spend your downtime?

When I’ve got extra time on my hands I love cooking and prepping things in advance such as my kombucha, kimchi or sauerkraut. Otherwise I love slow walks in nature, shopping through vintage shops, reading a book at a coffee shop, or treating myself to a facial or massage.

Do you have a favourite object / piece of furniture; is there a story behind it?

I had to think a lot about this one but I would say my mattress haha! It’s so comfortable I borrowed my uncles van to drive it back 12 hours from Berlin when I moved. As for objects, my Alessi Plissé kettle and my ceramics I flew back from South Africa.

How do you like to spark creativity?

Silence, music and being alone on my walks or runs are the best environment for my brain to generate ideas. Otherwise I must say the creative process is about having an initial thought / vision which comes together as I do it and experiment with options.

How do you like to unwind before bed?

Taking deep breaths with closed eyes.

Do you have a favourite go-to recipe? Would you mind sharing with us?

I don’t! I love experimenting and variety too much at the moment to eat the same thing regularly. I’ve been back into making smoothies again in the morning so here is one of my all-time favorite:

- 1 banana

- 1 date

- 1 cup frozen blueberries

- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries

- 2 cups plant milk

- 1 tbsp raw cacao powder

- 1 tbsp almond or peanut butter

- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional) - 1/2 tsp maca powder (optional)

When you are feeling flat, what’s something that fills you up?

Time outside, exercise, doing my skincare, seeing loved ones.

What lead you to what you are doing now?

As a kid, we travelled regularly and my dad was always filming and taking pictures. As a teenager I had a photography blog and loved recording videos for fun with the other kids in the neighborhood. When I started travelling on my own I felt the need and desire to record my adventures to have memories to look back on. I started posting on social media 10 years ago. Then I got a degree in Filmmaking and as soon as I graduated from university my YouTube/social media career took off. I feel so grateful for the opportunities that have come and for sharing this journey with an amazing community of people from all around the world.
