Celebrating Mum — Sunny Kaur

Celebrating Mum — Sunny Kaur

In the lead up to Mother's Day, we wanted to celebrate Mum's. We caught up with Sunny Kaur to hear about how her relationship with sleep changed with motherhood, something her Mum would always say — and now her too, and how her family will be spending this Mother's Day.

How has relationship with bed/sleep has changed since motherhood?

Before becoming a mother, I evaluated sleep quality solely on how it affected my morning routine. Now, sleep quality isn’t so much about clocking in a certain number of hours but rather taking advantage of the sleep I get, making sure it is high quality, no matter the quantity. As newborns, both of my girls woke up several times a night to breastfeed, chopping my sleep into small pieces. It’s not easy! But co-sleeping certainly helps these early Months.

What can we currently find on your nightstand?

My Chanel books, hand cream, water bottle and my fav Diptyque candle.

Tell us what has surprised you about motherhood

That I love it so much. That it not only changed my life but changed the person I am and how I viewed the world. I never expected to question every thought I had and choice I made with such serious deliberation until a life depended on me.

It’s a learning journey all the way through. As Jessie is now growing up so much, she sometimes reminds me about me talking back to my mum on things I didn’t want to do or when I had my moments of anger haha. Then I’m like oh wonder why mom dealt with it this way.

AM to PM, tell us what your perfect Mother's Day looks like.

I love waking up to coffee, fresh flowers and breakfast with hand written cards in bed. It’s actually the only day of the year hubby helps and lets me stay in bed to coffee! I like being treated to lunch or dinner out and rest of my time just spent with family.

Advice for mums and mums-to-be?

I keep telling all my friends or friends who ask, make sure you run the kids, and don’t let the kids run you! It’ll all come to you once you hold your baby and rest will fall into place. There’s always help out there, make sure you ask for it and let friends and family help in those early weeks it’ll make life so much easier with a newborn.

What's something your mum always says?

That I’m your mother and I have eyes everywhere and I always know what you’re up-to! Haha seriously it works on my children now too.
